Our Services Include

Antique Auctions

An antique auction is a proven method to get the most for your valuables. We regularly run antique auctions full of fresh estate antiques and collectibles. Strong buyers from Boston, Providence and New York attend our Worcester, MA location. We also run on-site auctions throughout Massachusetts and New England.

Estate Auctions

An estate auction often is a better way to sell items than to do an estate sale, including when the items are not antiques but are valuable contemporary items. We have conducted estate auctions throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Online Estate Auctions

An online estate auction is often a great method to sell the contents of an estate or when downsizing or moving. It offers many of the benefits of an estate sale along with the benefits of an auction. This is a great option for sales in remote locations, when items that are too large to move to an auction hall and for other special circumstances.

How Central Mass Auctions Differs from Other Auction Houses:

  • You can research us easily. You’ll find many reviews from clients online. Our site features many photos and details info on our services. You can quickly get a good sense of whether we’re a good fit for you.
  • We spend a lot of time on each auction. From evaluating items, to crafting descriptions, to taking clear photos, to promoting the items to potential buyers, most of the work is in the lead-up. Your items will be evaluated by a credentialed appraiser with decades of experience. A high-profit auction often requires a low-glamor prep stage. We’ve found the results to be worth the toil.
  • Our network. Maybe every auction house has its own network, and maybe it works well enough. In any case, ours is particularly deep. We maintain an extensive email list of past buyers. We promote auctions on our website, many other websites, social media, and trade journals. The way we see it, in every auction and in every interaction with the people involved in an auction, we make a little deposit of goodwill and trust, and on auction day we make a withdrawal for our client.

Why might you need an experienced auctioneer?

If you’re ever in a situation where the value of something you want to sell exceeds your ability to sell it at a good value, then you probably need an auctioneer. An experienced auctioneer can help you:

  • Sell the contents of an estate. Many tasks fall on the estate personal representative, one of which is to find new homes for valuables – and preferably not by selling them for little money on Craigslist.
  • Help your client (if you’re an attorney or other professional) sell the contents of an estate. Your client may want or need help liquidating, if you’re to wrap up the case on-time and to everyone’s satisfaction.
  • Turn your valuable assets into even-more-valuable cash. Perhaps you found them in your attic, or hoarded them in your basement, or chanced upon them at a yard sale.
  • Move or downsize. Part of the utility and appeal of a new home is the change of scenery. Even if you can bring some or all of your valuables, you may simply prefer to create room (and funds) for new valuables.
  • Auction the valuables of a business that is being liquidated.  Some items are easy to liquidate.  Other, more-specialized or collectible assets tend to be trickier, but often can sell for the most value.
  • De-accession a museum piece or collection. If you’re a curator or other decision-maker at a museum or art gallery, you may need an auctioneer to help you free up space and funds for the next phase.

What kinds of auctions does Central Mass Auctions handle?

The short answer is: we handle all kinds of auctions.

Because many of our clients need to liquidate an estate, we often sell antiques, collectibles, and other valuables we find in estates. Often that involves live auctions, where we sell valuable antiques, estate jewelry, gold and silver coins, and rare collectibles. Other items that excite us and our clients include:

In addition to having sold one-of-a-kind valuables of historical significance, we’ve sold unusual items like a World War II aircraft engine, a 1969 Volkswagen beetle, and a vintage wood Chris Craft boat in our online estate auctions.

Note for Executors, Personal Representatives, Estate Planning Attorneys, and Realtors:

  • Personal representatives are accountable for selling personal property in an estate
  • Make certain that you are getting “fair market value” for your estate contents
  • Valuables like antiques, coins, jewelry and artwork require special expertise
  • An estate auction is a proven and trusted method to liquidate the valuables in an estate
