Online Art Auctions

Online Art Auctions

COVID-19 and its fallout may have changed auctioning permanently.  Though online-only auctions don’t work for every piece, collection, or estate, in many cases they’re an excellent option.  An online art auction can get your paintings, sculptures, folk art, photographs, or other pieces in from of interested collectors.  These days, of course, more people participate in online auctions than they did pre-COVID, so the potential reach of an online auction is better than ever.

Even before the pandemic we frequently ran online auctions, often as part of a strategy that also included in-person auctions.  During the strictest part of the lockdown (around April of 2020) we did 100% of our auctions online.  Since then, the necessity of and demand for online auctions has only increased, and we auction more art online than ever before.  We put the same painstaking preparation into our online art auctions as we put into our in-person auctions, and both are excellent ways to get maximum return for your art. No-contact pickups, appraisals, auction setup, and promotion

Longtime auctioneer Wayne Tuiskula offers professional contact-free (socially distanced) appraisals. We then showcase your pieces with the help of expert photographers, and we promote our auctions to nearby collectors and antiquers. We have a wide-reaching network – built up over decades – that can help your online art auction pay off.

We’ll pick up all of your items and (where applicable) deliver back them to you. You can relax until it’s time to deposit your check, after one of your pieces sells.

Will you make less money by selling your art in an online auction?

Not at all.  For instance, a Lunt Embassy Scroll Sterling Silver Flatware set fetched for $750. An 1852 Savannah Volunteer Guards musket just went for $200.  At the very high end, Sotheby’s sold a George Condo online for $987,000.

Collectors have adapted to the pandemic and its sea changes, and are comfortable with purchasing verified pieces online, even when these exchanges involve sizable amounts of money.

Can reputable auction house better help you auction art online?

Yes. Online sales are on the rise, in part because many newcomers are jumping into the market.

Yet dealing with an established and reputable auctioneer tells collectors they’ll actually get the genuine article they paid for, and not a knock-off or a piece with another “catch.”

Choosing the right auction house also gives you the best chance of getting your pieces in front of serious buyers. Online auction sites abound, but many of them cater to bargain hunters. You want collectors: people who know what they want, know why they want it, and know it when they see it on the auction block.  We know what they’ll pay.
